Bronwyn Parry was probably surprised when I wrote to thank her for writing the best ever text book!
That’s right – text book.
As Darkness Falls is not just a fabulous story from a reader’s perspective, for a writer (especially those of us attempting single title romances) it’s the best darn ‘how-to write romance’ book ever.
Sure, there are many great writer resources that tell us how, but Bronwyn is showing not just telling (hmmm – show not tell – that rings a bell!!!)
Anyway, if you’re like me, struggling to put into practice all those things you’ve read and everything you’ve been told about honing your craft, I suggest you beg, borrow or buy As Darkness Falls. It’s a perfect example of 'what to do and how to do it', while keeping you intrigued from beginning to end with a great story and real characters. (What text-book ever did that?)
As Darkness Falls may be the title of the book, but for me it shone so bright, and gave me so many light bulb moments, that my head soon resembled a flood-lit football stadium.

Jenn I have this book to read but haven't done so yet. Will have to make it one of my must do's this week.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
Sandie
I've read it too, Jenn, and it's a ripper read. Very Aussie with loads of drama and suspense.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Bronwyn would LOVE your feedback. She seems to be a lovely lady. Maybe you'll get to meet her at the conference????
So sorry I'm late getting here! Jenn, thank you again so much for your kind comments about As Darkness Falls. You've no idea how lovely it is to hear it referred to as a 'text' book! I'm so glad writers as wella s readers are enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteAnd Monique, thank you, too for your very generous words. Yes, I'm planning to be at the conference, so I hope to catch up with bootcampers there!
Sandie, I hope you enjoy the read.
We'll be very happy to meet you at the conference, Bronwyn. You won't have any trouble spotting us - we're the crazy bunch! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm also looking forward to reading your next book (the cover looks great, btw). Best of luck with it.
