Like cats on a hot tin roof

While Tennessee William's play - Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - examines the complicated rules of social conduct in southern (USA) culture in the 1950s, some of our Bootcamp Cats (along with other RWA members) are frantically examining the complicated rules of conduct for pitching to Harlequin.

In honour of all you cats (category writers) the rest of us are thinking of you and wishing you all the best. Now here is some rather pertinent Tennessee Williams dialogue. (If you don't know - Brick (the cat) and Maggie are central characters.)

Here you go:

Maggie says, "I'll win, alright."

Brick says, "Win what? What is the victory of a cat on a hot tin roof?"

Maggie says, "Just staying on it, I guess. As long as she can. "

Maggie then says, "And nothing's more determined than a cat on a hot tin roof. Is there? Is there, baby?"

You go Cats.

Thanking Rachel and Nikki

The Bootcampers have been fortunate enough to have the ongoing help of the wonderful Rachel Bailey who writes for Silhouette Desire. Her first book will be out in February 2010. Rachel recently informed us of her new blog with a group of other Desire authors. Make sure you drop by and visit, and become a 'friend' of hers through the eHarlequin community. She's working on a new website as well, and we'll keep you posted about it when it becomes live.

Nikki Logan has also been a fabulous supporter of the group, working with us during Bootcamp and assisting the BootCats with a brainstorming session recently. She writes for Harlequin Romance and her debut novel will be out in January 2010. Her website is filled with some brilliant tips for new writers, so go and check it out. It's one of the prettiest websites I've seen and definitely worth a look.

I'm sure all the Bootcamp gals would agree that we'll be reading Rachel and Nikki's books come early 2010. I know I'm very keen to see their writing styles in print and find out what I can learn from their work. Thanks for your support and inspiration, ladies!
